Known issues

This chapter describes the following problems and their solutions (listed below). Please check FAQ also.

  1. Registry and SPTD problems including the following:

    • Can't access registry
    • Can't open service key
    • Unable to add adapter
    • My system won't boot after installation of v4, or problems with SPTD.SYS
    • You must reboot after previous operation
  2. Security software solutions including the following:
    • Internal error
    • Initialization Error 2
  3. 'You need local administrator privileges...' message
  4. No virtual drive in My Computer
  5. Error during disc imaging
  6. 'Insert original disc' message

Q: I have a registry or SPTD problem (listed above) what should I do?
A: Please follow instructions in Registry and SPTD problems solution. Also you can search for solution on our forums and ask community at http://forum.daemon-tools.cc.
If all mentioned above fails — you can contact our support team to resolve the issue (please provide as much details as possible, including DAEMON Tools version, OS version and error message text).

Q: I have a security software (antivirus, firewall, etc.) related issue, what should I do?
A: Please follow instructions in Security software solutions. Also you can search for solution on our forums and ask community at http://forum.daemon-tools.cc.
If all mentioned above fails — you can contact our support team to resolve the issue (please provide as much details as possible, including DAEMON Tools version, OS version, security software name and version, etc.)

Q: I have 'You need local administrator privileges...' message appeared, what should I do?
A: You need local administrator privileges to run DAEMON Tools for the first time.
To solve this problem in Windows Vista/7, please right click on DAEMON Tools shortcut and then click on 'Run as Administrator'.

Q: No virtual drive appears in My Computer. How can I fix it?
A: To get that fixed please follow the steps detailed in No virtual drive in My Computer solution. Also you can search for solution on our forums and ask community at http://forum.daemon-tools.cc.
If all mentioned above fails — you can contact our support team to resolve the issue (please provide as much details as possible, including DAEMON Tools version and OS version).

Q: I receive Error during disc image creating. What's wrong?
A: For creating images of protected discs (discs with special signatures) and 1:1 disc images we recommend to use DAEMON Tools PRO.
However if you are creating image of regular disc (not protected and without any special signatures) please try the following:
1) Ensure you are using the latest version of Daemon Tools. See Update section.
2) Ensure you are using the latest firmware and drivers of your physical CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. And have latest OS updates installed.
3) Check your disc surface to be clear and not damaged and your OS can read disc data.
4) Set lower value for reading speed.
If all that fails, visit our Forum or tech support, and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Q: I have 'Insert original disc' message appeared, what should I do?
A: Ensure you are using a full image and no mini/maxi image.
This error is mostly caused by an improperly created image. For creating images of protected discs (discs with special signatures) and 1:1 disc images we strongly recommend to use DAEMON Tools PRO.
You can recreate your image with DAEMON Tools PRO using the correct Profile. Use a copy protection scanner (e.g. Protector ID) or look into our Game Database to determine the type of copy protection for your disc. Also try to use the different value of DPM speed.
In DAEMON Tools Lite check advanced emulation options to be enabled.

Q: I have 'Server request failed. Error code: 12175' message. How can I fix it?
A: Please disable any security software like Kaspersky, Spy Sweeper, NOD32 etc. and try again. Also see Security software solutions.

Q: 'No Plugins detected...' message appeared, what should I do?
A: Ensure you have latest OS service packs and updates installed and disable any security software like Windows Defender, Kaspersky, Spy Sweeper, NOD32 etc. and try again. Also see Security software solutions.
9.
Q: I believe protection software conflicts with DAEMON Tools (conflict with emulation software detected). How can I fix it?
A: StarForce: This message means your created image is bad and/or your drive where you have located the image is either ntfs compressed, on a network drive or on a RAID (software) drive. Also check 'Insert original disc' issue

ProtectDisc: Wait for an update for DAEMON Tools.

SecuROM: You can try to change the virtual drive's vendor, model and revision to something like your physical drive in Device parameters dialog (call it by right clicking on the virtual drive in the Virtual Devices panel).

10.
Q: I can't write/erase CD/DVD+-R(W)s, how to fix it?
A: Disable all emulations, especially any kind of Hide CD-R media function (e.g. Alcohol, DAEMON Tools Pro, CloneCD, etc.)

info NO emulation is required to use mounted images (regular images without protection)!
Emulations are for written media only [i.e. CD-R(W), DVD+-R(W)]! Thus emulations should be enabled when really required only.
So keep the emulations disabled unless you use some disc that needs emulation.
